A breakout to a 52-week high is the strongest classic signal in this Academy: 1.91× and 1.29×. It is also wrong about two thirds of the time, and this lesson is about those.
In 2026 there were 346 measured 52-week breakouts in liquid stocks. 34.7% touched +20% within 30 sessions. The other 65.3% did not, and 226 of them are recorded as outright failures.
The worst, sorted by 30-session close:
| Stock | Date | Entry | RSI | Volume | Peak | Close after 30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KOHP | 2026-01-16 | Rs 68.84 | 92 | 1.93× | +10.0% | −65.5% |
| CSIL | 2026-01-06 | Rs 13.42 | 83 | 3.21× | +1.3% | −61.0% |
| KOIL | 2026-04-13 | Rs 104.52 | 81 | 1.40× | +5.2% | −54.4% |
| 786 | 2026-03-30 | Rs 62.47 | 81 | 1.11× | +10.0% | −54.3% |
| BFMOD | 2026-01-12 | Rs 36.33 | 75 | 1.98× | +1.8% | −53.5% |
| ESBL | 2026-01-30 | Rs 28.83 | 77 | 1.75× | +7.0% | −51.4% |
What these have in common
Every one has an RSI between 75 and 92. Every one broke a genuine 52-week high. Several had respectable volume. On a checklist, these look like the winners.
That is the honest finding, and it is uncomfortable: the failure cases are not distinguishable from the success cases by the indicators in this course. We looked. When we split M10's hits from its misses across 10 years, the entry features were nearly identical, the medians of extension, volatility, relative volume, price and RSI barely separated them.
What actually differed
The one entry-time variable that did separate them was the market, not the stock. Entries made while KSE-100's 20-day return was negative touched +20% 52.4% of the time; entries made into a flat or rising index, 44.6%.
And the largest separator was something you cannot know at entry, whether the market rose during the following 30 sessions. When it did, hit rate 53.3%; when it fell, 32.7%.
Look at the dates in the failure table: five of the six are January-April 2026. These were not bad stock choices. They were the same choice made into a different tape.
What to do with this
- Expect to be wrong most of the time. A 1.91× signal on a 18-24% base is still a minority of winners. If your position sizing assumes otherwise, the sizing is the error, not the signal.
- Check the index before the stock. ZEME's own rule is that every buy call opens with the KSE-100 position, breadth and regime. Market DNA is the deepest form of that check.
- The stop is the plan. M10's stop is −25%. Every stock in that table blew through it. A stop that is not placed is a stop that does not exist.
The claim this Academy will not make: that we can tell you in advance which of the 346 breakouts will be in the 34.7%. We measured it, and the entry features do not separate them. Anyone who tells you otherwise has not checked.
Do this now, practical activity
- Pick any two stocks from the failure table and open them in SuperCharts.
- Look at the chart up to the entry date only, cover the right-hand side with your hand.
- Ask whether you would have taken it. Most people, honestly, would.
- Now uncover the rest.
This is the single most valuable exercise in the Academy. It builds the one habit that survives every market: sizing for the case where you are wrong, because you cannot reliably tell in advance which case you are in.
Measured: of 346 liquid 52-week breakouts in 2026, 34.7% touched +20% within 30 sessions and 226 failed. Across 10 years, the entry features of M10's hits and misses were nearly identical; the separating variable was the market's direction after entry, 53.3% hit rate when KSE-100 rose, 32.7% when it fell.
